My sister Whitney and I on my first day of Kindergarden or 1st grade. She's going to kill me for posting this! But we all went through that awkward phase when our moms cut our hair and we look like a boy, right?
For the first time in 15 or so years, I won't be retuning to school this fall. It's so strange to see everyone on Twitter and Facebook talk about their "Back to School" preparations and I can't help but feel a little jealousy. I loved going school supply shopping (yes, even in college) and picking out a planner I'd use for a week, 5 notebooks (although I'd always end up using one for all subjects) and new pens and pencils I'd lose in the first week. Back to school shopping meant fresh crayons, Elmer's glue, and maybe even a new backpack when I was a kid. I'm not going to lie, I wasn't the best student. I always came to class without a pen or piece of paper and stayed up too late at night so I'd sleep right through class. Somehow I always managed to pull off good grades though. I'd like to think that I've grown more responsible in the past few years!
This fall I find myself polishing my resume, buying work pants, and hoping I catch some good luck. Entering the job market is also very exciting but I can't help but long for the security and comfort of returning to school.
For this outfit I was inspired by an old school jumper and wanted to put my own spin on a Back to School look. This is totally something I would have worn to class in college. In high school I was pretty content with band tees, chucks, and jeans. Elementary and middle school I wore my uniform polo and jumpers, skirts, and kakhis.
Something about this jumper-like dress just reminds me of uniforms past. The ascot looks pretty studious, I'd like to think.

hehehe that is so cute (your photo from when you were younger). No, I never had really short hair like a boy's at all, but I knew loads of girls who did back when I was in elementary and middle school in the early through mid 90s. Your outfit is amazing. I really love it so much I featured it at http://rubyeyedokapi.tumblr.com and will feature it this coming weekend at my personal blog http://tiedemanntribe.blogspot.com

aww how adorable! you look amazing in that dress and i love the colors you mixed :). yes my mom cut my hair like a boy as well! i think i was around 8 years old when she did, but it was only because my brother got winterfresh gum knotted up in my hair so high that she had to "bowl cut" i guess you'd call it? i was horrified haha. now i keep my hair very long and definitely will never go back short until i'm 70!

Haha I, luckily, never went through that haircut phase because my mom is a hairdresser.
ReplyDeleteI love your outfit so much. The top looks great layered underneath the sleeveless dress. And the black tie is great too. Perfect!
